5 Minds That Could Change How You Think and Live Forever

Hello Friends,

Welcome to Theory of One. We are trying something new since we have a hangouts interview this weekend, I have decided to introduce you to concepts from a new book I'm reading. So I want to start this post by asking one question. What makes you successful?

It is called the 5 Minds For The Future by Howard Gardner. Gardner was a piano player who went on to graduate Harvard with a degree in Social Relations. He later returned to Harvard to obtain his doctorate in Developmental Psychology. He believes and states that there are five possible mindsets and positions you hold in education.

One of these five 'mindsets' or ways people think critically are:
1. The Disciplined Mind
  • People who find a specific skill set and attain mastery.
  • People who identify truly important topics or concepts within this discipline.
  • People who study intensely and immerse themselves into what they study.
  • People who approach the topic in multiple ways
I believe this is the most important mindset in this whole book. You will fail in entrepreneurship if you have not disciplined your mind. If you do not find a specific skill set and master it you become what I call "loose-ended". Now understand that balance is essential. It is the key to understanding mass amounts of knowledge. The only problem with understanding everything is that you master none. So I want you to think 80-10-10 proportion. By that I mean spend 80% of the time learning something you value and want to master, 10% of the time learning everything you can, and 10% applying the valued knowledge. Be aware this only in the first six months. After that you need to adapt and revise your learning proportions.

I appreciate you taking the time to read this. I understand you have many goals, tasks, and projects to complete. Check out the "5 Minds for the Future" and please follow our blog. Faith (2nd Factor of The Napoleon Theory)

"We are twice armed if we fight with faith."
                                                      -Plato

(Chapter Three) FAITH: The Visualization of and Belief In Attainment of Desire

So, when I first started reading this book I was surprised to find this word in it. You often do not find the word faith in academic, financial, and economic based literature. Yet as Hill goes through and deciphers all of the relations (between spirit, emotion, and personal growth) I was able to understand how they could interconnect. Besides, who doesn't think of spirituality when they think of self-help books. I mean it was the reason I didn't pick up most of the self-help books that were abundant in my public library at that time.
Hill starts the first paragraph of this chapter stating, "When faith is blended with the vibration of thought, the subconscious mind instantly picks up on vibration, translates it into its spiritual equivalent. And then transmits it into infinite intelligence, as in the case of prayer." He has basically just said that prayer is the equivalent of untamed thought. If this is true then the essence of prayer is just your mind running in directions you cannot see the end of. Which, by definition, is the same as faith. He continues, "The emotions of faith, love, and sex are the most powerful of all major positive emotions. When the three are blended they have the effect of 'coloring' the vibration of thought in such a way that it reaches the subconscious mind." Think of how much emotion processes throughout your lifetime. Honestly I get infuriated more often than I should, therefore I can almost guarantee you my mind goes into hyper drive. Yet, we can function in things that we typically wouldn't imagine having to deal with because our mind processes the emotion correctly. But it can only do that if you have the ability to let go and say I trust in this system, my family, or even God. No matter where your faith comes from- faith is essential to stress management and stress management is equal to capital.
Let me guess, your thinking: "well if faith is essential to my success how do I develop it?" According to Hill, "Faith is a state of mind which may be induced or created, by affirmation or repeated instructions to the subconscious mind , through the process of auto-suggestion." Auto-suggestion is the hypnotic or subconscious adoption of an idea that one has originated oneself, e.g. through repetition of verbal statements to oneself in order to change behavior. And as Hill states in the next two paragraphs the method in trying to induce "faith" into yourself in extremely difficult to explain. But once you read all the 13 principles and become proactive in the choice of lifestyle you want, it will then come to you naturally. Also set yourself up multiple self-affirmations that you wish to become or already feel proud about and repeat them to yourself multiple times a day. I have read that it helps you open yourself up to the inevitable and can allow your mind to become flexible causing unintended faith in yourself.

Faith is important in all aspects of our lives including your profession. I understand the fear in believing in something we cannot physically hold in our hands but the mind wasn't built to believe in one thing. It was built to have the ability to comprehend (or at least try to understand) things beyond the present time and your current abilities. So, this is what I need you all to do: type up three affirmations and then put them up somewhere you spend a lot of time. Then everyday, for at least 5 minutes, read them out loud repeatedly until you believe it. Trust me faith is the key to a creative mind. And only innovation can make you money.

Desire (1st Factor of "The Napoleon Theory")

Step One (Chapter One): Desire

Hill describes the first contributing factor to success as desire. He tells a story of Edwin C. Barnes who literally walked into Thomas Edison's lab and announced that he was going to collaborate with Edison.  It actually reminds me a story that Tai Lopez tells in which he harrased a influential person into mentoring him.  Hill goes on to say that one of the major characterisitics of Barnes' desire was that it was definite. There was nothing that could change his mind. NOTHING. And even though he didn't have enough money to even get there, he still found a way to get there. He was not taking a loss because of regrets. Yet there was a slight problem he did not get his partnership. Although he gained a job and worked his way up the ladder.

Hill states that Edison himself said that it wasn't his apperance, his background, nor the knowledge he had. It was the burning desire he had established in himself that eventually became action. Even though Barnes hadn't received  the partnership he did not quit. Once again there was a burning desire he couldn't contain. "Barnes was ready for a business association with Edison, moreover, he was determined to remain ready until he got that which he was seeking."

I once had a mentor tell me that I had a burning desire in me. The way he described it, it seemed as if he had once saw it in himself. As people who thrive for things farther than their reach, we seem to have certain characteristics that define who we can be as well as who we are. It doesn't matter how bad you want it your purpose must be definite and you must be willing to try and achieve it. "When Barnes climbed down from the freight train in Orange, New Jersey, he may have resembled a tramp, but his thoughts were those of a king", Hill tells his readers. We all have that potential no matter what

Hill goes on to say that Barnes ends up getting the job. He worked with Edison selling the newborn invention know as the Ediphone.

Method 1:

Hill claims "the method by which desire for riches can be transmuted into it's financial equivalent, consist of six definite, practical steps.."

  1. Fix your mind on the exact amount of money you desire.
  2. Determine  exactly what you intend to give in return for the money you desire. (There is no truth behind "something for nothing.")
  3. Establish a definite date when you intend to possess the money you desire.
  4. Create a definite plan when you intend to posses the money you aquire, and begin at once, whether you are ready or not to
  5. Write out a clear concise statement of the amount of money you intend to acquire, name the time limit for its aquisisition, state what you intend to give for the money, and describe clearly the plan through which you intend to accumulate it.
  6. Read your written statement aloud, twice daily, once just before retiring at night, and once after arising in the morning. AS YOU READ- SEE, FEEL, AND BELIEVE YOURSELF ALREADY IN POSSESION OF THE MONEY.

He inputs a small disclaimer stating that you should follow the instruction thoroughly and it is vital to follow the sixth command.
